Musa ingens - The World's Largest Banana Tree Papuan






We all have known bananas, both the fruit and the tree. Yes banana trees could be said to be typical of tropical regions.


There are different types of bananas that we know, from bananas to bananas gendruwo. But have you ever heard of Musa ingens, which is a type of giant bananas?


Musa ingens is a rare banana species that can reach the size of a surprise. Musa ingens, is the world's largest banana trees that grow in the forests of Papua New Guinea and Indonesia. This is the highest banana species and herbaceous plants in the world.

The size of the banana Musa ingens very impressive. The banana tree can grow up to 15 meters high; the circumference of the base (bottom) stems can all reach 2 m. While the leaves can reach a length of 5 meters and a width of 1 meter. It was really unexpected.

If fruitful, this bunch of bananas can weigh up to 60 kilograms apiece with a length of 18 cm and a diameter 3-4cm. Seeds average diameter of 4-10 mm, and the fruit is not edible as usual banana. Or so-called banana flower banana this type, hanging very large. Banana flowers will be as long as 10 cm. Banana can amount to 20 combs, each flower 16-25. No wonder so many people are fascinated with this banana plants.


Very difficult to find this kind of banana seed. If anything is found, its breeding is very difficult for seeds to grow into cambah just take a year or more.


Musa ingens habitat is tropical highland forests around 1350-1800 meters above sea level. They are adapted to grow in cold climates. Musa ingens feature is fully described by NW Simmonds 1960 while Jeff Daniells popularize this plant after a study visit to Papua New Guinea in 1989.
